As a friend of mine says:-there''s something magical about a game under the lights at the Hawthorns. And he''s right. Under the lights the pitch looks lush and untrodden and the stadium glows and bristles with energy and expectation. It had been dreary in the West Midlands all day with howling winds and pouring rain. Alongside that came warnings about fallen branches, flooding and standing water on the roads. At one point I thought the game might be cancelled. However the wind and rain abated and it was game on and as we pulled up to the Hawthorns it looked fantastic all lit up. Unfortunately for me as I was parking the car I was too close to a huge iron drain cover and I managed to rip a huge iron drain cover sized hole in my nearside front tyre. So that was a good start. There''s nothing I like more before I go to a football match than changing a tyre under the dim glow of a street lamp. Anyway half hour later and it''s into the stadium to take our seats. West Brom had reduced the ticket prices for this game, party due to the game being televised on Sky or BT, so there was a good crowd for a Monday night. Burnley didn''t quite sell out their allocation and accounted for roughly 1,500 of the 23,000 crowd.
