One of those special days. Despite having to run for 3 out of the 6 trains (and stand on 2) I met nice people all along the way. A professional violinist off to play at York Opera house, a woman who owns the Park Hall Farm Experience centre, a mother and daughter off for a day''s shopping and a young lad going home from a long days work and looking forward to the rugby league cup final. Over the better part of 3 hours each way I didn''t do a crossword or listen to any music. But to the purpose. Football and the visit to Nethermoor Guiseley. Proper old Yorkshire town - terraces of mellow stone - and nice gentle Yorkshire folk. I was reet early too (train times forced) but they let me in and I sat in the clubhouse with a pint of Black Sheep. the club serves both the cricket (one side) and footy (the other) and is a place one could enjoy long times. The ground itself is basic but well maintained although I wouldn''t like to be there in the rain as the cover is limited to say the least. Good crowd too and very funny in a ''robust'' sort of way. The football, however, was pretty awful. Scrappy and more bluster than skill. But enjoyable nonetheless. A nasty injury (shoulder) in the first half delayed everything by about 10 minutes (oxygen and stretcher) so I ended up having to leave well before the end to catch my train. Blessed release actually and I didn''t miss anything. Then the journey home and back indoors before nine. Smiling.
